Winning golf pair

Joy and Keith Calder celebrate winning the Balclutha Golf Club Guthrie Bowron two-day pairs’ tournament on Sunday.

The tournament, which was played in challenging, windy conditions, came down to a play-off between the Calders and Cody and Darrell Peoples, who both ended the three rounds on an aggregate of 201.

Joy Calder made the winning putt to put the couple at the top of the tree, claiming victory over the 124 entrants this year.

A club spokesman said the event was the yearly calendar showpiece for the club, and was once again oversubscribed for entries.

He praised greenkeeper Ronnie Davis and his team for their efforts, and thanked the event’s many sponsors who contributed to a prize pool of more than $12,000 this year.
