Record turnout for ride

A rider in the Milton Gutbuster takes in the wide-ranging views over Lake Waihola at the start of the trail ride near Circle Hill on Saturday morning. Organisers said they were ‘‘rapt’’ with a record turnout for the annual Milton Lions Club fundraiser, as more than 400 riders of all ages and abilities took to the hills. A spokesman for the club said the event had raised more than $15,000 this year, which would be distributed to local good causes, including Toko Rugby Club and the Bruce Community Facilities Trust, which is overseeing construction of a new swimming pool complex for Milton. He said riding conditions had been excellent, and only two minor injuries were reported. ‘‘We’ve received excellent feedback from riders about the course this year, so we’re looking forward to returning in 2024, given the continued generous co-operation of our landowners, sponsors and volunteers.’’
