A light breeze fanned the action for a ‘‘perfect summer’s day’’ at round one of the New Zealand Motocross Championships at Balclutha earlier this month.
Organisers reported a ‘‘huge success with over 500 spectators’’ with all systems running smoothly, including the management of one injury near the beginning of the day.
‘‘The track was excellent and we kept the dust down with the help of the mighty Clutha River,’’ co-organiser Jo Bond said,
‘‘It cut up really rough later in the day, but that’s to be expected with a sand base track. It’s great for the top riders and awesome experience for upcoming competitors.
‘‘A huge thanks to all our sponsors, Clutha Development and the hardworking club members. The feedback from riders and spectators shows the South Otago Motorcycle Club put together a major fixture to be proud of.’’
Round two of the NZMX Championships is at Rotorua in two weeks. Balclutha MX 1 rider Madison Latta will compete.
