Golf challenge raises $2700

Taking on the Longest Day golf challenge last Wednesday were Balclutha Golf Club members (from left) Kevin Baff, Roger Pennell and Ben Keach. Golf’s Longest Day is a challenge to complete four rounds of golf — 72 holes — in one day, an endurance event to raise funds for the Cancer Society. ‘‘Surprisingly, I’m feeling fine this morning after 11 hours, 42 minutes of golf,’’ Mr Baff said the following day. Mr Pennell estimated each man walked about 36km during their golf-athon, raising more than $2700 for the Cancer Society. ‘‘Cancer reaches into so many lives and families — including the three of us — and we’d really like to thank all the people who donated and sponsored us,’’ he said. REPORT & PHOTO: NICK BROOK
