Wendy Brenkley, of Palmerston North, takes a moment to appreciate the view during the 32km mountain bike section of the Blue Mountain Challenge near Clydevale on Sunday.
More than 80 athletes from across the country headed to Clutha Valley to take part in the annual community fundraising event. Organised by Clutha Valley Lions Club, the challenge offered a wide range of biking, running and walking options.
Mountain bike riders were treated to spectacular South Otago views across picturesque farmland, climbing into the Blue Mountains. Participants and their supporters were then rewarded with a Lions barbecue.
A spokesman for the club acknowledged the support of local businesses, as well as the guidance of Sport Clutha regional sports co-ordinator Craig Gordon.
The spokesman said funds raised from this year’s challenge would be used to assist a local student attending a three-week Outward Bound course this month. Surplus funds would be donated to Clutha Valley School. REPORT: RICHARD DAVISON/PHOTO: SUPPLIED
