Footy comp heats up

Scott McLaren carries the ball towards opponent Logan Wilson during a fiery five-a-side football match last Tuesday. The annual summer five-a-side football began in October, and organiser Alf Nicol said the games were going well. ‘‘They’ve been very popular so far and we’ve always got a good turnout,’’ he said. ‘‘The numbers don’t seem to increase or decrease too much, so it remains a worthwhile event to host.’’ The matches continue until a tournament and prize-giving on January 29. Teams of five go up against each other in mixed divisions along with men’s teams as well. ‘‘We’ve got a good age range, from youngsters to oldies. It’s a very enjoyable thing to do during the week for many and keeps them going during summer season.’’
