The tails flew thick and fast as more than 50 volunteers helped Waipori Station staff to dock more than 8000 lambs recently.

Organiser Steve Wither, of Lawrence, said the annual community fundraiser used to be run by the rugby club but because of their unfortunate circumstances this year, the gymkhana club stepped up and took over the job to raise funds for new fencing at the Lawrence Gymkhana grounds.

“We were extremely grateful for the help the Pamu Farms Waipori Station staff gave us as we all worked hard on Friday and Saturday to dock more than 8000 lambs.

“A total of 54 volunteers from the gymkhana club, the rodeo club, the motorcycle club and the Lawrence Lions all pitched in to make short work of it all.

‘‘It was great watching them all work together as they quickly created a production system at each of the portable pens created to separate the lambs from the ewes,’’ Mr Wither said.

The money will be used for a variety of community schemes.
