A by election for a vacant Clutha District Council seat is set to take place, after two nominations were received.

Tapanui residents Lloyd McCall and Gabrielle Mills put their names forward by the deadline of noon yesterday, and will vie for one of two West Otago ward seats, which was vacated by St John volunteer Michelle Kennedy last month.
Mr McCall, a rural consultant, stood unsuccessfully for the Molyneux ward of the Otago Regional Council during the 2019 local government elections.
Mrs Mills is a registered nurse and counsellor for Gore Health.
The winner will represent West Otago alongside Cr John Herbert, of Heriot, and replace Mrs Kennedy following a 10 year period of unbroken service to the council.
Earlier this month, Mrs Kennedy said she had stepped down mid term due to health issues, and in order to pursue other interests.
The by election will conclude at noon on Wednesday, March 17.
