Balclutha’s Cooee Bike Park officially opened last Sunday morning with a dedicated turnout — despite the 3degC temperature.
‘‘We had about 50 people come along, and about 30 of them riders,’’ co-organiser Jo Bond said.
The bike park boasts a range of courses accessible from the Kaitangata Highway and Golf Course Dr and is the culmination of many months of pitching, planning and volunteer work from numerous organisations.
While the tracks are open for business, there are plans for an advanced aerial area and native planting to provide a natural green space for the town.
‘‘Everyone was really impressed with the trails . . .the work that has been done by the track-building team is unreal. Hours of hard labour has resulted in a real asset for the community,’’ Mrs Bond said.
