Milton’s Moore Park hosted a fun and friendly basketball tournament last Sunday in support of refurbishment of the courts.
About 50 people arrived and divided into teams including the ‘‘Milton Mavericks’’ and the ‘‘Rim Wreckers’’ for a half-court shot contest, a one-on-one challenge and a main tournament where the ‘‘Old Farts’’ came away victorious against the youngsters.
The fun-day was the initiative of local father Mark Robinson, supported by Project Bruce and Otago University social services students, with a sausage sizzle courtesy of Milton Lions, equipment from Balclutha Basketball and prizes from generous Otago sponsors.
‘‘Everyone had a smile on their face and a bit of a laugh, playing in front of agreat crowd of cheering people,’’ MrRobinson said.
The organisers said they hoped the event would help persuade councils and local stakeholders to upgrade Moore Park’s dilapidated sports facilities, adding to its potential to be a thriving community hub. REPORT: NICK BROOK. PHOTO: SUPPLIED
