Miscreants Angus Percival (8), of Waitahuna, and Oliver Alden (9), of Lawrence, pay their dues in the Lawrence stocks during the town’s annual heritage day on Sunday. The boys — who protested their innocence — were among hundreds helping the town celebrate its rich gold rush history during the weekend. Among activities on offer were eel feeding, model boats, live music and horse-and-cart rides. There was also live displays of model steam engines, wool spinning and felting, horse shoeing, wood chopping, sheep shearing, grain milling, a chaff cutter and a traction engine. Tuapeka Vintage Club president Rodger Anderson said organisers were delighted with the turnout, after several years disrupted by Covid-19. REPORT & PHOTO: RICHARD DAVISON
