Kaitangata Golf Club has come a long way since its first clubhouse (pictured) was built in 1923.
Local author Joyce Beck is in charge of promoting the club’s centennial, and is collating records and photographs for a special›edition history book.
‘‘Kai Golf Club is different because our course has been in three locations since it began on Lakeside Rd in 1923. It moved to Summerhill Links overlooking the Clutha river mouth in 1949, and to its present spot at Wangaloa Links in 1958.’’
‘‘Links’’ indicates a golf course by the sea, and the level, nine›hole Wangaloa course is popular with novice and elderly players as well as experts out for a speedy, competitive game.
The club’s 100th anniversary will take place on Saturday, April 8, next year with a celebratory dinner and open day featuring the release of Mrs Beck’s book, followed by the club’s annual ‘‘Chicken Run’’ golf tournament on Easter Sunday.
