Mr Robertson started a volunteer working group eight years ago to tidy the town reserve at the back of the main street in Lawrence, which locals claimed was looking run-down along with rotten stairways throughout the tracks.
The volunteer group’s current job created the picnic area along with new steps, improved bridges, bushes weeded and dead trees removed from the area.
Locals and passers-by have appreciated the work done by the volunteers.
Secretary of the group Mark Robbie said the area would continue to be improved and maintained by the volunteers and he thanked the Lawrence Tuapeka Community Board, Clutha District Council and people who had chipped in financially and physically for their ongoing support.
