Nativity revealed

Christmas celebration and education was merrily traditional atSt Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Balclutha last week, with handmade nativity boxes by pupils and teachers including (rear, from left) Maggie Cameron (7), Mrs Rowena Miller, Lucy McBride (7), Kase Twaddle (8), George Thomas (8), (front) Pippa Irwin (7), Varsha Robin (9) and Gabriella Wainohu (8). The nativity boxes looked outwardly like gifts wrapped to rest under a Christmas tree. When the lids were lifted a scene of the first Christmas was revealed including Mary, Joseph and Jesus in the manger. Gabriella Wainohu of Room Aroha said her nativity box would be a gift for her parents. ‘‘It reminds us that Jesus came to give us good examples and hope, especially when you know bad things still happen,’’ Gabriella said. REPORT & PHOTO: NICK BROOK
