Waipahi local Anna MacKenzie recently received the Ian Mathieson Memorial Scholarship from convener Gary Bos at the Clinton Lions first meeting of 2023 in Clinton. Mayor Bryan Cadogan told the meeting ‘‘dare to dream’’ and encouraged the Clinton Lions to come up with ideas to attract people to the town, and for young people to have a reason to live there. Waipahi local Miss MacKenzie was one of six applicants for a scholarship for tertiary study. The $1500 scholarship will go towards the money to support Miss MacKenzie’s studies at Massey University in Palmerston North to become a veterinarian. Each other applicant received $1000. The Clinton Lions raise money for the scholarships by tailing lambs in spring, and people who go into tertiary study or training can benefit from this money by applying for a scholarship.
