Recent New Zealand citizenship recipients gather with Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan at the Clutha District Council headquarters last Thursday afternoon for a photographic memento of their big day. The special ceremony was held to allow Clutha residents receiving their citizenship during Covid-19 restrictions to gather together and celebrate their new status. It was a somewhat larger gathering than usual, Mr Cadogan said. ‘‘We had 36 people in this category, with whom we hadn’t been able to celebrate before, so it was fantastic to meet them all, and listen to them share their stories of their various journeys to get here, and their hopes and dreams for the future.’’ The ceremony followed the council’s final committee meetings for this triennium, as it prepares for local government elections on October 8. The full council will meet one more time before then, next Thursday. REPORT: RICHARD DAVISON/PHOTO: SUPPLIED
