Owaka locals get their groove on at the Bulletproof Convertible Dead Rockers Ball last Saturday. The night of entertainment and socialising attracted about 65 people in support of Owaka Going Forward, which said the $4000 raised from the night had ‘‘kick-started’’ its project of installing security cameras in north, south and central areas of the town. Funds from raffles, auctions and ticket sales were all going ‘‘to the safety of the town’’, Owaka local and councillor for the Catlins ward Dane Catherwood said. ‘‘This will get the ball rolling, and with the band saying our hall has the best acoustics in South Otago we hope to utilise it for other events such as this, so it was a very positive evening for all,’’ Mr Catherwood said. Bulletproof Convertible is looking to do future Dead Rockers Ball events in the district, so keep an eye out for flyers and online posts. REPORT AND PHOTO: EVELYN THORN
