Dorothy Wilson (12), of Clutha Valley School, baked and sold iced cupcakes for three weeks to raise more than $330 for the Cancer Society.
‘‘We heard Daffodil Day was coming up and I thought about ways I could make a donation. Cancer is very widespread. It can happen to anyone — friends and family members — and I really want to thank Mum and my family and everyone for helping me,’’ she said.
At the time of her interview at school in Clydevale on August 23, Dorothy had baked 110 cupcakes for sale at $3 each and found people so taken with the cheerful colours that some customers snapped the delightful treats up ‘‘seven or eight at a time’’.Â
