Ministry of Primary Industries (MPI) senior fishery officer Gareth Manson headed a recreational fishing education team who sailed through Clutha last week.
Kaitangata Primary School’s (from left) Harper Hosking (9), Ruby Pennell (9), teacher Megan Fuehrer, Phoenix Bradley (8), Oscar Green (9) and Jack Maybee (10) were pleased to come aboard Dunedin MPI’s compliance vessel.
‘‘Some of our science classes have been studying the ecology of local fish species including our salmon,’’ principal Anneta Payne said.
‘‘Learning how to have sustainable relationships with nature is an important part of that’’.
‘‘The boat’s a year and a-half old and has been on about 40 deployments from Timaru to Catlins and Haast. Today we’re just at Kai and Warepa but any parent can ask any school to contact Dunedin MPI if they’d like a visit,’’ Mr Manson said.
