Festive lunch

More than 110 Lawrence seniors were treated to a festive luncheon by the local Lions Club last Thursday.

Club secretary Alison Joyce and president Jamie Benington sat with 95-year-old Lawrence Lions founding member Lance Enright and were joined by Austin Dalziel (13), who came with year 7 and 8 volunteer waiters from Lawrence Area School (LAS).

‘‘Lions are always fundraising for events like school camps, so we’re here to assist them,’’ Austin said.

Five- and 6-year-olds from LAS were also invited to sing before the community meal, which featured ham, beef and plenty of vegetables.

Mrs Joyce said the tradition had run five times, with gaps for Covid, and she was pleased to be able to present gifts to the nonagenarians.

‘‘So many people here have volunteered and supported Lawrence Lions and the community for years, so this is just one way we try to show our appreciation,’’ she said.
