Warepa School celebrated Matariki last Friday with a hangi and kapa haka joined by the official opening of the school’s recent refurbishments. After the ribbon cutting, pupils and families gathered to watch Daryl Jenkinson and Bill O’Connor uncover the hangi- earth-oven to produce heavy baskets of food simultaneously roasted, pressure-cooked and infused with aroma. Adults watched a series songs and haka practised by the pupils before digging into shared celebration kai in and around the new multipurpose room.
