Kaka Point Community Group president Deborah Whyte and Nugget Point Recreational Fishing Club president Grant Sinclair hold up a new public defibrillator set to be installed on the outside wall of the front of the Kaka Point Surf Life Saving Club building. The fishing group used leftover funds from its annual Easter fishing competition to buy a defibrillator and provide it to the community group for public use. Mr Sinclair said previous president Murray Bichan ‘‘got the ball rolling’’ with the project. ‘‘We had some funds left over and we decided to put it to good use to the community. We’re pleased it’s here in time for the holidays, as Kaka Point is a popular destination for many.’’ Mrs Whyte said the community group was ‘‘extremely grateful for the generous donation’’ and it would be an asset to the community in the future, although they hoped they would not have to use it.
