Community spirits were high in Waihola recently with the establishment of the new Waihola destination playground under way.
The Waihola Looking Forward committee held a working bee to continue construction in the playground area. Committee chairman Grant McDonnell led teams of more than 20 to work on the grounds around new equipment.
‘‘There were moments including some keen young test drivers of the new all abilities carousel which makes us reflect on the hard work that has been done and who we’re doing it for,’’ Mr McDonnell said.
The hard workers were treated to morning tea and lunch from other volunteers and kitchen helpers.
The playground is not yet completed, but the committee is holding a ‘‘Picnic in the Playground’’ event on December 18, and a formal opening is set to be held in March 2023 once the ‘‘final trimmings’’ including history boards, gardens and a picnic corner are installed. REPORT AND PHOTO: SUPPLIED
