After a year of being the project co-ordinator for Catlins Coast Inc, Lisa Biginato is excited about what the next year has in store.
Catlins Coast Inc. is a not-for-profit organisation which focuses on looking after the Catlins through sustainability and informing visitors about the area.
Ms Biginato said the area is a “little treasure of New Zealand”.
Originally from the UK, Ms Biginato moved to Kaka Point 20 years ago and said she knew she was there to stay.
“I just love it here.”
During her time in the role, she has worked on updating resources, such as maps and brochures, and helping to build the new Catlins Coast Inc.
Ms Biginato said she hopes to see the completion of the new website in September.
Another part of updating resources would include new interpretation panels at Slope Point.
“I’m excited to finish projects I’ve helped start.”
She has also worked alongside other organisations, such as South Otago Forest and Bird, to create various newsletters and reports to keep locals informed.
Along with keeping busy looking after the area, Ms Biginato also volunteers as secretary for the local fire brigade and the Kaka Point Directory.
She said she enjoys getting outside and biking and swimming: “I love the outdoors; this place really suits me.”
Ms Biginato also said she loved the people, and, since moving, she had met her now husband and made life-long friends.
“Coming from the UK, you get a sense of community but not like you do here.”
