A rural rugby club based on camaradarie, friendship and all-around love for rugby, Clutha Valley is the best of the best.
The club is in its 102nd year and is a close-knit group filled with dedicated and motivated players and members.
Clutha Valley Rugby is more of a younger-based club today with a premier team and two junior teams this year, and its players are rural young and older keen rugby lovers.
Club president Hamish Wilson describes the community culture of Clutha Valley.
‘‘We’ve got an amazing club culture, with so many dedicated people who put incredible time and effort into organising and keeping our club to the highest standard.
‘‘We’ve got awesome sponsorship which we are very thankful for, and the amount of support Valley receives is great.
‘‘The players are very well looked after here.
‘‘A few of the premiers players are also on the committee and everyone pitches in and does what they can for the club.’’
The club had its centennial in 2021 when previous and current players rallied from near and far to celebrate 100 years of Valley Rugby.
Valley has created stalwarts in and out of the club, including sending players such as Lachie Moore to the Otago squad in its time as an established club.
The club also celebrates people who have given service to the club for many years by giving out life memberships, which they display on the wall inside the club building.
Valley has been successful in recent years, celebrating its centennial in 2021 and claiming back-to-back premier competition wins in 2021-22.
The club is on a roll and aims to continue its success in the coming season.
Each year the club hosts fundraising opportunities including crutching lambs and tailing, and encourages people to look out for upcoming fundraisers over the season.
Club merchandise inquiries can be made to Hamish Wilson on 0274 179-058 or the Facebook page for orders or an online shop opening to support Clutha Valley.
Make sure to get along to the highly anticipated games throughout the season and support all the Valley teams!
