Spirits were high after a strong final full dress rehearsal last Sunday proved the only thing missing from South Otago Theatrical Society’s brand new Screen Scenes was the audience.

And this was not really an issue, since advance tickets sold so fast a bonus matinee performance has been added to the schedule.

‘‘When lines and positions are learned and practised, the magic ingredient is the audience,’’ an insider said.

‘‘The audience forces you to make a choice between holding back or committing 100%, and of course there is no choice.

‘‘You breathe in that energy and blast your best back out and it’s truly a shared experience.’’

The fast-fire toe-tapping live performance soundtrack includes moving movie themes and clap-along television signatures on which the cast and crew have been diligently working since May.

The show opens tomorrow night at the society’s Balclutha theatre. REPORT & PHOTO: NICK BROOK
