The art of fire spinning has caught on in Clutha with the ignition of a club in Milton.
Founder of the Aotearoa Community Wellbeing Trust Josh Bourgeois (masked) fired imaginations with a spectacular display at Milton’s Matariki festival last year, and associated Te Ahi Ora fire spinners have since led courses in schools around the district.
Tuesday last week was the initial meeting of Te Ahi Ora Milton at the Grey St Scout Hall-Toy Library.
‘‘Tonight is about interest and registrations . . .It’s for ages 5 and up with primary, highschool and hopefully adult groups learning the skills, safety and confidence of fire spinning,’’ co-organiser Christine Savage said.
The group plans to meet every Tuesday from 6pm and is supported locally by Project Bruce, which can be contacted for resources, promotion and co-ordination.
