Craigellachie on SH8 between Lawrence and Beaumont will once again play host to the Lawrence Lions Club’s annual trail ride on February 16 and 17 and organisers expect between 800 to 1000 participants.
They have been able to construct 90km of riding trails through seven farms that they believe will challenge the expertise of participating riders.
With an advanced trail for senior riders, there are also tracks suitable also for less experienced riders, juniors, four-wheelers and side-by-side machines.
Organiser Paul Wilson said over 900 riders took part in last year’s event and all enjoyed the challenges of riding through the surrounding Tuapeka west farm land and marvelled at the views offered from on high of the Clutha River, the Lammerlaw range and the Blue Mountains from the tracks.
A simple safe course for pee-wee and junior riders will be set up near the official headquarters on Bennington’s farm at Craigellachie, signposted 13km north of Lawrence, across the road from the iconic bike up the pole.
The event is a major part of the Lawrence Lions Club’s annual fundraising efforts as they support a number of charities in the Lawrence Tuapeka area.
Mr Wilson said the local PTA will be providing food on the day with lunch included in the entry fee to the event.
Entry forms are available from Paul Wilson on (03) 485-9097 or (027) 485-9024 or from Jamie Bennington on (03) 4859-208. Entry forms can also be downloaded on www.myride.co.nz.
