Rosebank School pupils (from left) Kaian Holgate (10), Jacob Gray (10), Sebastian Wakelin (10), Michael Newcombe (9, seated) and Romeo Robson›Walker (9) put a play trailer through its paces.

Trailers containing practical items such as pipe and wood blocks were lent to Rosebank School on March 16 by Sport Otago as part of the Healthy Active Learning programme to stimulate pupil›led ‘‘Loose Parts Play’’.

‘‘The trailer and objects inspire creative ideas for kids to play and learn together,’’ Ginny Young, of Sport Clutha, said.

Schools around the district borrowed the sets for ‘‘taster days’’ to gauge pupil response and the possibility of expanding the programme.

‘‘They provided a wonderful array of items for students to use in imaginative, active ways to have fun and learn. Our classes rotated throughout the day and loved the experience,’’ Rosebank School teacher Sarah Reid said.

Play trailer kits can be sampled by contacting Ginny Young and Craig Gordon at Balclutha’s Cross Recreation Centre.
