With less than a month until the Lawrence Lantern Festival, preparations are already under way to make sure the day goes smoothly.

Members of the community gathered at The Prospector Cafe earlier this month to create lanterns to be carried through the streets and put on display around the township.

“We have a new design this year with no bottoms,” organiser Anne Cheng said.
Without the base of the squarish lanterns present, the tea-lights from previous years would be absent from the finished product.

“They weren’t very effective anyway,” Mrs Cheng said.

The new lanterns would be hung on the arches at the entrance to Lawrence and surrounded by LED lights to illuminate them.

This year’s lantern festival will take place on Friday, October 2.
