The Clutha i-Site was on the move last week, across and down the main street of Balclutha to its new temporary home in John St.
Clutha District Council library/ service centre manager Debbie Duncan said the move was a result of the looming demolition of the Balclutha War Memorial Hall in preparation for the development of the new Clutha Community Hub.
Mrs Duncan said interim visitor and council customer services would be available from tomorrow morning at the temporary premises at 1 John Street, on the corner of John and Clyde Sts, opposite the BNZ.
The phone number would remain the same — (03) 418-0388 — throughout the transition period.
Clutha i-Site team leader Ange Anderson said it was the second time it had been up and down Clyde St.
‘‘We did the move once before, back in the late 1990s, it was only temporary then, too.’’
Mrs Anderson said she had been working in the Balclutha War Memorial Hall complex since she started with the old Balclutha Borough Council 39 years ago.
‘‘It was a very different place to work in back then as the old borough council were a very conservative lot, everyone paid in cash and we had no visitor information centre then.
‘‘I worked looking after records for property management for a number of years before moving over to the tourist information service centre in the 90s,’’ she said.
The staff said they were looking forwards to getting their new premises when the community hub was built.
