The pupils of Tahakopa Primary School were pleased to win a $250 award in a Best School Trip writing competition recently.
The small school that hosts just three pupils at present (from left) Clark Napier (12), Harley Stapleforth›Hill (12) and Malakai Stapleforth›Hill
(11) decided to collectively narrate their recent sailing expedition, where they joined forces with Stirling Primary School at the Owaka Yacht Club at Hinahina.
The pupils, alongside their three staff members, sent the written narrative into the
Education Gazette , and were selected for the prize.
The young scribes detailed how they prepared the boats with their sails and flagpoles and were launched from the jetty to set sail. Tahakopa principal and teacher Cherie Zoutenbier›Bisset said the staff were ‘‘extremely proud of the kids. It was a lovely start to the term’’.
The school is still considering ideas on using the prize money for items such arts and crafts materials, pens and other materials.
