University of Otago students from Arana College used their free time to tidy up Milton during their Orientation Week activities last week.
The students cleared waste and weeds from around the State Highway 1 bridge over the east branch of the Tokomairaro River, at the edge of the town.
Student co-ordinator Bill Peereboom said the students wanted to do some work in the wider Otago community, so instead of joining others working out on the Otago Peninsula, helping pregnant women or working at food security, they decided to go to Milton and help keep the place clean.
‘‘It’s all about community outreach and a little bit of volunteerism,’’ he said.
