A feast including egg nog, whitebait fritters, lamb and pavlova went down well with pensioners in Lawrence late last month.
A total of 53 gathered at the Lawrence Golf Club for a midwinter pensioners’ party hosted by Tuapeka Health Inc.
Tuapeka Community Health Inc (TCHI) chairman Mark Hay said because of recent events many pensioners were staying at home, spending a lot of time alone and missing out on meeting up with their friends at their usual sports or recreational activities.

“We came up with the idea for supporting our community by organising at short notice a get-together and meal and it has grown from that.’’

TCHI director Suzanne Stephenson said it was a fun way to get people together.
“We had a wonderful menu organised, and our staff have helped us out, volunteering their time to serve as chefs, servers, waiters and helpers on the night,” she said.
