Seats were at a premium at the opening of the new multi-purpose community hall in Kaitangata over the weekend.
More than 300 people attended the ceremony in the new church-cum-community hall building.
Kaitangata Community Centre Charitable Trust member Evan Dick thanked the many individuals and local businesses which had helped the eight-year-long $1 million project to upgrade Kaitangata’s community hall, come to fruition.
A representative of the Otago Presbyterian Synod, which owns the original church, said small rural communities needed creative minds such at those in Kaitangata to come up with innovative ideas for the inclusion and increased utilisation of churches in small communities.
