Police are looking into the cause of a blaze which destroyed a vacant home in Milton last weekend. A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said emergency services received multiple calls to an address near Table Hill Rd about 5.30am on Saturday. Milton brigade Deputy Chief Fire Officer Mike Moeahu said two appliances and crews from Milton attended and were assisted by a tanker from Waihola, and upon arrival they found the 10m by 20m building ‘‘well involved’’ in flames. Crews had to start with an ‘‘external attack’’ on the fire and prepare the scene for examination. The cause of the fire was undetermined and an investigation was under way, he said. A police spokeswoman said police had been notified by Fenz about the issue and understood the property was vacant at the time of the fire. Vacant properties did not go up in flames for no reason and police would be making inquiries, she said. REPORT & PHOTO: NICK BROOK
