Grant of $2m for community hub

The new Clutha Community Hub will receive a $2.2 million grant from Otago Community Trust.

The grant was announced last week and will support the interior fit› out of the hub, which replaces the former Balclutha War Memorial Hall in Clyde St.

Otago Community Trust chief executive Barbara Bridger said the grant reflected the trust’s commitment to ‘‘support widely’’ across the Otago region.

‘‘The new Clutha Community Hub will have ongoing wide community use, which will empower, encourage and enhance community participation. This fits nicely with the new strategic focus of Otago Community Trust.’’

Clutha Community Hub Charitable Trust chairman Dale Anderson said the committee was ecstatic to receive the support.

‘‘It will have a massive impact on our rural community; this is a major project for the Clutha district, and we firmly believe it will drive significant benefits for the district for generations to come.’’

News also emerged last week that the $15 million project would require a further $7 million to complete.

Clutha District Council is seeking ratepayer feedback regarding a $2.5 million payment towards this sum during its current annual plan consultation, which ends on April 21.
