South Otago High School (SOHS) sports prefects Lachlan Judson and Kasey Valli (both 17), and Sports co›ordinator Pam Hannah accepted a welcome boost to SOHS sports programmes last Friday with the donation of $1000 in fuel vouchers from Balclutha Motors.
Caltex is a sponsor of The New Zealand Sport Collective and the local branch is part of Balclutha Motors, whose managing director is Jared McPhee (second from right).
Mr McPhee said the cost of the donation was covered by Balclutha Motors in acknowledgement of the importance of sport for young people.
‘‘The role sports have in developing teamwork and responsibility in the community is well known, so it makes sense for local business to encourage that,’’ he said.
‘‘Travel is one of our main expenses,’’ Mrs Hannah said.
‘‘All players have to contribute and sometimes fuel costs are higher than subs, so were really grateful. This’ll be a great help.’’ REPORT/ PHOTO: NICK BROOK
