Call for names for community awards

Do you know of an individual working hard to make a difference in your community?

Nominations are now open for the 2020 Clutha District Community Awards.

The Clutha District Council has decided to host the awards, previously known as the Trustpower Community Awards, to recognise individuals for their efforts on behalf of the community.

Clutha District Community Service Awards committee chairwoman Cr Alison Ludemann said it had been planned to run the awards in conjunction with National Volunteer Week in June but Covid-19 put that on hold.

“Rather than do nothing this year to honour those hard workers in our community, we decided to go with the individual awards because we believe it is important to recognise the contribution of individuals in our community,” Cr Ludemann said.

“When you see who has been awarded it in past years you will see how important it is to honour these people.

“They are the many, many people in our community who work behind the scenes doing great things to help others. This is their opportunity to be recognised.”

Previous winners include Branko Sijnja, Bill Cross, Bill Thompson and the late Don Waugh.

To nominate someone, visit the Clutha District Council website and search the Your Community/Awards/Clutha District Community Service Awards webpage for details or visit any of the CDC’s service centres to get an entry form.
