There was Christmas ham and minted peas, roast lamb and new spuds, plus sweets and wine on offer at the annual Lawrence Lions Club’s community Christmas luncheon held last week.

The Lions catered for 100 last Friday with a two-course meal for the elderly and for volunteers and community workers from the Lawrence area at the Simpson Park function centre.

Lawrence Lions Club past president Min Bain said the annual event was always a highlight of their year.

“It brings together so many different people from all around the town and district, and it’s a way for us of saying thanks those who helped out throughout the year,” he said.

Helping the Lions with the lunch were Lawrence Area School pupils from years 5,6,7 and 8. They sang carols and helped serve the meals.

For those who couldn’t make the trip into the hall, there were meals on wheels. Those in the hospital were not forgotten, as the Lions catered for them also.
