Sniffing out good charities

Members of the Balclutha Rotary Club visited the K9 Medical Detection New Zealand centre at Invermay near Mosgiel last week, as part of their ongoing process of identifying worthy charities to support in the region. The members were guided around the training facility by K9 Medical Detection New Zealand founder and chief executive officer Pauline Bloomfield who explained the benefits of training dogs to sniff out cancer cells in urine samples. Watching on as Mrs Bloomfield explains how the specialist dogs are outfitted are Balclutha Rotary members (from back left) Christine Eyles, Sharon Gouman, Suzanne Schofield, Tania Lowery, Brian Archbold and Barry Willcocks.
