Eager buyers for native plants

Natives for sale . . . The South Otago Forest and Bird held their yearly natives sale last Thursday and over 400 lots went up for sale at this annual fundraiser. Chairman Jane Young said it was so popular with residents of Balclutha that they were selling before the doors opened at their sale area at Balclutha Mitsubishi at 3pm. “All the money raised goes towards Forest and Bird activities and restoration projects being conducted in Clutha and South Otago communities,” she said. All the native trees, of which there were 30 varieties, were raised from seeds, cuttings or rescued from older trees around the district, they were grown at the Forest and Bird’s nursery by members to help preserve the species and raise awareness of the conservation of native trees.
