Young actor ‘shocked’ to win OSTA talent award

A young Balclutha thespian has received recognition and a scholarship she plans to use for international travel.

Grace Stevenson (17) won the iTicket Up and Coming Talent Scholarship at the Otago Southland Theatrical Awards on Saturday night, alongside co­winner Jackson Collier, of the Alexandra Musical Society.
Both young actors received $500.
Grace said she was “shocked” when she found out she had won the award, especially given the host of qualified contenders.
“There were so many talented people nominated for the award . . .I didn’t really expect it to be me.”
She intended to put her scholarship towards travel to New York in July this year, she said.
“I’m most excited about going to see a Broadway show. It’s always been a dream of mine.”
The annual awards celebrate outstanding theatre.
They are judged by a panel who travel around the regions attending all the productions societies in Otago and Southland have submitted for scrutiny.
Grace performed in the South Otago Theatrical Society’s production of Ladies for Hire, as well as the independently produced Blood on the Coals.
